First off, a definition.
According to the official BioThane USA website (biothane.us, FAQs):
BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. It’s basically a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof, easy to clean and weldable.
Since our early days, Evergreen Dog Co. has been an official retail partner of BioThane USA. We use approved distributors to bring BioThane of many colors into our headquarters for use in our production of custom collars and leashes.
But what makes it different? And what are the benefits for dogs and dog owners?
BIOTHANE IS CLEANABLE; EASIER TO MAINTAIN
When it comes to "adventure" with your pup, there really aren't (and shouldn't be) many parameters.
It could range from a wet hike to a sunny afternoon at the dog park to a simple trip to the local big box, dog-friendly hardware store (ya, my pup and I do that often).
One of the reasons we at Evergreen Dog Co like BioThane the most is because it is SO easy to clean AFTER your adventures, typically with no more than a damp towel.
Mud & dirt? No worries. Wipe it off.
Slobber or sweat? No worries. Wipe it off.
Get it wet? No worries. Wipe it off.
It's that easy to maintain. Compare that to other materials like canvas or leather and, honestly, you'll find there really is no comparison.
We like to call it weatherproof or waterproof ... which leads us to another word we like to use. Stinkproof!
You know how those wet, dirty collars can get, well, kinda stinky?
Because BioThane is so easy to clean and maintain, they just don't seem to get smelly.
BIOTHANE IS MORE DURABLE
Being waterproof and stinkproof can automatically make BioThane gear more durable and long lasting.
But there's more.
BioThane is an extremely durable material. Very strong. In fact, according to the BioThane USA website: Under normal use, BioThane will long outlast leather and nylon.
And it even remains durable and flexible in cold weather.
BIOTHANE COMES IN MANY COLORS
It's one of the things that sets our products at Evergreen Dog Co apart ... the multitude of color options our customers can choose from when customizing their dog collar and/or leash.
Currently 18 to be exact, ranging from 'Hot Pink' and 'Glacier Blue' to 'Classic Evergreen' and 'Midnight Black.'
The result is a very sharp, visually appealing collar or leash in your favorite color or colors that make your pup stand out on any adventure.
And do the colors fade?
According to the BioThane USA website:
The opaque colors tend to hold color significantly longer than the fluorescent colors. In general, the deeper the shade of the hue, the longer it will last.
Honestly, in our time as a BioThane partner, we haven't heard of or seen much fading ... except in cases where it's been left out in the sun for extended periods.
BIOTHANE: A HEALTHIER OPTION
Stinkproof, waterproof, durability and a plethora of color options are all great advantages of BioThane ... but when it comes to our pups, it's gotta be healthy. Period.
BioThane is made from non-toxic materials and generally considered safe for use on animals.
At Evergreen Dog Co, we don’t produce the BioThane. But the folks who do (biothane.us) have gone the extra mile to make sure it is Prop 65, REACH, and CPSIA approved. Basically, this means it doesn’t contain substances that are banned or deemed unsafe to humans.
What we do have, however, at Evergreen Dog Co is feedback from our customers. Most recently was feedback from our customer Seila, who loved the hypoallergenic advantage of BioThane gear. Before Evergreen Dog Co, she had issues with her dog’s allergic reactions to collars. With her new Evergreen Dog Co collar, there hasn’t been an issue.
